Why we love chamomile flowers
A gentle wind-down
Chamomile has been a bedtime favourite in European homes for generations, the cup that marks the end of the day.
Naturally caffeine-free
With no caffeine at all, chamomile is a cup you can enjoy late into the evening.
Honey and apple notes
Whole flower heads brew a pale-gold cup that smells of warm hay and stewed apples, mellow and lightly sweet.
Good to know
Flags: Daisy family.
Contains daisy-family flowers — avoid if you are allergic to ragweed, chrysanthemums or marigolds.
Its name comes from the Greek for 'earth apple', after the fruity scent that rises when the low-growing plant is crushed underfoot; in Spain it is manzanilla, the little apple. Egyptians, Greeks and Romans all knew it, and a pot of steeped flower heads has closed the day in European kitchens for centuries.
