Why we love assam black tea
A bold breakfast backbone
Malty, brisk and full-bodied, Assam stands up to a splash of milk and gives breakfast blends their depth.
Naturally caffeinated
Assam leaf naturally contains caffeine, so a strong cup makes a bright, wide-awake start to the morning.
Brews fast and dark
The small broken leaf gives up its colour quickly, turning the pot a deep mahogany in just a few minutes.
Good to know
Flags: Caffeine.
Contains caffeine. Not suitable for children.
Assam grows on the hot, rain-soaked plains of the Brahmaputra Valley in north-east India. The Singpho people were brewing the region's wild tea long before a British trader was shown the plant in 1823, and in 1839 the first Assam leaf sold at auction in London. Strong and malty, it became the heart of the British breakfast cup.
