Why we love ginger root
A warming kick
Ginger brings a clean, peppery heat that builds as it steeps, waking up chai and fruit blends alike.
A spice-rack all-rounder
Just as happy with black tea as with turmeric, lemongrass or apple, ginger adds backbone to almost any blend.
Naturally caffeine-free
There's no caffeine in ginger, so its warmth is welcome from breakfast to bedtime.
Good to know
No special cautions for most people in normal tea amounts.
Ginger was first cultivated in maritime South-East Asia and travelled the spice routes to India, China and Rome, warming kitchens and folk traditions for centuries along the way. It flavoured Elizabethan gingerbread, simmers in Indian adrak chai, and has been grown around Buderim on Queensland's Sunshine Coast since the early 1900s.
